To understand types of vinyl flooring, it is important to first understand vinyl flooring.

What is Vinyl Flooring?

Vinyl flooring is a product that consists of multiple layers of different materials sandwiched together to create a very useful, durable, and inexpensive floor covering. PVC, fiberglass, and various chemical plasticizers are typically found in the composition of this resilient floor material. Bathrooms and kitchens have been the prime areas where vinyl flooring has been used in the past. But it is used everywhere in the room, with the major feature being water-resistant flooring.

Let us now look further into the different types of vinyl flooring.

Different Types of Vinyl Flooring

1. Luxury Vinyl Plank

Luxury vinyl planks, or LVP, are long and narrow planks that look fairly similar to those of wooden flooring. These planks are much more durable and scratch-resistant than the vinyl sheets because of their greater strength. The hardwood look that comes with vinyl planks is mainly because of the PVC component along with the design layer. The layers of design are available in many different choices that represent the appearance of different wood types ranging from light wood to gray and even whitewash. In the long run, the additional layer ensures that there will be fewer wear and tears, stains, and scratches.

There are two options for the installation of LVP. The first is the floating tongue and groove option, and the second is the glue down option.

2. Luxury Vinyl Tile

Luxury Vinyl Tile flooring is similar to LVP flooring, but it has the appearance of stone, ceramic, or porcelain tile. The tile flooring is again more rigid than that of the vinyl sheet flooring and therefore has a longer life without succumbing to scratches and stains. The prints of stones and porcelain are so realistic that they can be easily mistaken for them.

LVT can also be installed with a floating tongue and groove system or with glue down.

The choice of LVT stands out because of the ease with which it can be installed. It has zero grout work, and hence the labor intensity is a tad bit on the lower side. These tiles can also be laid on top of existing flooring, which also helps to reduce costs. Being spill-resistant makes it simple to clean up messes without leaving stains. Cleaning and maintaining vinyl flooring is easy, as it can be done using a floor cleaner that is designed to clean vinyl flooring.

3. Sheet Vinyl flooring

Sheet vinyl flooring is one of the most popular types of vinyl flooring, primarily because it is budget-friendly and has a water-resistant capacity. Because of its ability to easily mimic stone and wooden flooring, sheet vinyl flooring is now being used in a variety of element strategies. It also costs half of what you actually invest in the above two types of flooring: LVP and LVT. One of the aspects that are lacking in sheet vinyl flooring is that it needs a stable flooring ground to be laid on, and it is also soft when compared to LVP and LVT and therefore has less scratch resistance. They are available in different patterns and can be customized to suit the theme of your space. The ease of installation is seen while ripping off the sheets as well. This helps you change the flooring to meet the trends of that time without needing to invest more time to do it.

Where is Vinyl Flooring Used?

Vinyl flooring is commonly used in kitchens, bathrooms, small apartments, and so on. Let us look at how these spaces will benefit from a vinyl flooring layout.

1. Kitchen

Spills and messes are common in the kitchen. Installing vinyl flooring expedites the removal of stains and spills. The vinyl flooring is also moisture resistant and is in for the long term. The springy effect that vinyl flooring gives off makes it easier to stand on for long hours when compared to hardwood flooring. Dishes are not susceptible to breakage because of falling on vinyl flooring.

2. Bathrooms

PVC is one of the prime components in vinyl flooring, so waterproofing for water-prone areas like the bathroom is a real savior. The waterproof quality makes it a more adaptable option in laundry and bathroom areas. Sheet vinyl flooring is the best option when it comes to wet areas. The vinyl flooring also does not easily get cold, making it a good option to comfortably walk on.

3. Small Apartments

Small apartments do not have a lot of area to cover. So, it will be ideal to go ahead and choose a type of flooring that suits the space. Vinyl flooring is a great option for enhancing the constrained space of a small apartment because it can be installed in a variety of ways. As a result, the homeowner won't have to continually spend a lot of money replacing the flooring in the apartment because vinyl flooring is commendably long-lasting. It is also a great economical choice because it experiences less wear and tear. The cost savings that vinyl flooring can give is exponentially higher when compared to other flooring options like wood, stone, or ceramic flooring, etc.
